The very name of Jim Corbett National Park situated 86 kms from Nanital brings in the images of tigers basking in the verdant surroundings oblivious of any kind of fear and danger. The park was established in1936 and was named after Sir Malcolm Hailey, the Governor of United Province. In 1957, the park's name was changed to Jim Corbett National Park. Jim Corbett, a famed hunter, author, photographer and naturalist shot many man-eaters in the region and secured the lives of thousands of people living in the nearby areas. The park holds the distinction of being the first national park of India and is spread in 1318 sq kms. It has the highest density of tigers that gives the opportunity to the wildlife enthusiasts to catch their glimpse after every 10 sq kms.
